Our School

Our vision is that through experiences at BMS, students will be better equipped to meet daily challenges and opportunities and have increased life options. The Bedford Middle School community will provide a safe and caring environment in which students can fully develop and demonstrate academic progress. It is believed that all students can learn and that BMS staff members will positively connect with students to facilitate learning at a high level.

BMS is a student-centered learning environment enriched through the use of proven instructional practices.  We strive to develop life-long learners who apply practical and higher order thinking skills. We believe students should think independently, set and meet goals, believe in themselves, and achieve their potential.  We provide a brain compatible environment where there is meaningful content, student choices, adequate time, enriched environment, collaborative atmosphere, immediate feedback, and mastery of content/application of learning.

We believe the curriculum should follow the Indiana Academic Standards, include real world connections and applications across content areas, and be developmentally appropriate. Instruction should be brain compatible using a variety of techniques, be individualized and student-centered, provide adequate time and opportunity for mastery of concepts and skills, be organized thematically providing for student choice, and be cognizant of multiple intelligences. Student learning should occur in a safe and secure environment, encourage active participants to become independent, lifelong learners, and promote accountability and encourage students to do their personal best. Assessment should measure student achievement for the purpose of increasing student learning and allow for individual strengths by utilizing a variety of appropriate assessments.
